Fire and Foam Ranger FAQ
Fire Ranger™ & Foam Ranger™ FAQ
What's the difference between the Fire Ranger and the Foam Ranger?
Both are pickup-mounted firefighting skid sprayers built by Enduraplas, and they share the same chassis, Honda® GX160 engine, and centrifugal pump. The difference is the nozzle and tank setup: the Fire Ranger™ sprays water only through its Flame-Slayer™ nozzle, while the Foam Ranger™ adds an Air-Induct™ nozzle and an Easy-Store™ foam tank, letting you lay down a fire-suppressing foam blanket in addition to water. If you only need water knockdown, the Fire Ranger is the simpler, lighter option. If you want foam capability for better fire suppression and less water usage per fire, the Foam Ranger is the better fit.
What sizes are available, and what do they weigh?
Both units come in 250 gallon and 400 gallon capacities.
- 250 Gallon: 80"L x 47"W x 38"H, 458 lbs dry (Fire Ranger) / 493 lbs dry (Foam Ranger)
- 400 Gallon: 102"L x 46"W x 45"H, 541 lbs dry (Fire Ranger) / 576 lbs dry (Foam Ranger)
Keep in mind these are dry weights, a full tank of water adds roughly 8.34 lbs per gallon, so a fully loaded 250 gallon unit weighs in around 2,500 lbs, and a full 400 gallon unit is closer to 3,900 lbs. That water weight is the single biggest factor in deciding what you can safely mount it to. See the next question.
Can I mount a 250 gallon unit on a UTV instead of a pickup truck?
We get asked this often, and it's worth being straightforward about the numbers rather than just saying "yes." A fully loaded 250 gallon Fire Ranger or Foam Ranger weighs approximately 2,500 lbs. Even the largest, most capable full-size UTVs on the market — the Polaris Ranger XP 1000 and Can-Am Defender MAX HD10; are rated for roughly 1,000 lbs. of cargo box payload and 1,225–1,500 lbs. of total vehicle payload. That means a fully loaded 250 gallon unit exceeds even the best UTV's total payload capacity by close to 1,000 lbs.
In practice, that means a 250 gallon unit is only "UTV-compatible" if it's never filled to capacity, which defeats the purpose of having a full tank on hand when a fire actually breaks out. If you're outfitting a UTV, talk to us first: we can help you figure out what capacity and fill level is actually safe for your specific vehicle's rated payload, rather than assuming it will work because the unit physically fits on the bed.
What pump and engine do these units use, and how far do they spray?
Both the Fire Ranger and Foam Ranger use a Honda® GX160 5.5HP engine driving a centrifugal pump rated at 120 GPM and 100 PSI, with 100' of hose included.
- Fire Ranger: up to 35' vertical spray, 40' horizontal spray
- Foam Ranger: up to 33' vertical spray, 36' horizontal spray (slightly shorter due to the foam-air mixture)
Can I draft water from a pond, tank, or hydrant instead of just using what's in the unit?
Yes, the pump is set up to draft from an external water source using the included suction hose, so you can refill or run continuously from a pond, cistern, or other water source rather than relying solely on the onboard tank.
We're a municipal or volunteer fire department planning for next year's budget. How do we get pricing?
Request a quote through the product page, there's no obligation, and it's built specifically for departments that need a formal quote in hand to bring to a budget committee ahead of purchase approval. Let us know your target budget cycle and timeline, and we'll follow up directly.
What's the return policy on a firefighting skid sprayer?
Standard returns are accepted within 30 days of shipment for a credit or exchange, less a 20% restocking fee, with return shipping at the buyer's expense. Given the size and freight cost of this equipment, we'd rather help you confirm the right capacity and mounting setup before you order. Please reach out to Riley with questions before purchasing rather than relying on the return process.
